There are some changes for temporary skilled visa holders. As many migrants continue to be affected by visa and safety policies due to the pandemic with this announcement, the Government will introduce some positive changes.
For Temporary Skilled Migrants who hold visas ( subclass 489, 491 and 494) will be extended for three years. This will enable more than thousands of workers to work full-time. According to the skilled migration agents in Australia, changes are provided to all current and former skilled regional temporary visa holders with sufficient additional time to make their travel arrangements so they can start or continue to stay and work in regional Australia.
Temporary Skilled Visa Flexibility
According to a skilled migration agent in Australia, the Australian Government will allow current and former temporary skilled visa (subclass 485) holders to enter Australia. They can re-enter and apply for an extension of their stay. This extension also extends to family members who were issued the original temporary skilled visa.
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) also mentioned that the COVID-19 Temporary Skilled (subclass 485) alternative flow visa. This visa will provide students affected by the COVID-19 travel restriction with the same length of stay as specified in their original visa.
In addition, for skilled migrants who are outside Australia and will hold a valid temporary skilled visa, the visa will be extended. That will affected when decided by the state authorities.
The Department of Home Affairs will notify visa holders directly of the visa extension. Skilled migration agents in Australia believe that these policies will greatly assist temporarily skilled to re-enter Australia. Further changes are planned for July 2022 that may provide more visa extension options for former skilled migration visas.
